I'm able to upload about 1 out of 3 times with the official Prolific drivers and the Open Source drivers. I don't plan on changing the memories much, so I'll just live with it. Neither driver seems to make a big difference on the reliability. It could be the cable.

Hmm, okay, interesting. I'll go try a bunch of times with mine and see if I ever see a spurious failure.

After the USB adapter, I'm using a (well-)homebuilt TTL converter and custom cable to the radio.
