For the Kenwood software, don't you need to have the virtual comm port driver installed?

I have the same problem with the Kenwood MCP program, they tell me that the serial -> USB adapter chip is not compatible with the software. I'm assuming it's a driver issue on the adapter cable you're using.

Thanks for that! The issue I'm having is that the cable is recognized by windows but doesn't show up in the chip program as a port option. It's just blank.

IIRC, Surface PRO models are all regular windows. RT wouldn't even run CHIRP.

Does your Surface Pro have Windows in it or Windows RT?  RT won't work.

Hi Guys,

I'm just wondering if anyone had any issues with the com port opting being
blank when trying to upload or download a radio. I'm using a surface pro
with only one post and it's supposed to be com port 3. Any help would be
appreciated!

I assume you are using a USB programming cable. I doesn't sound like
you have a device driver that is compatible with the USB-to-TTL chip
installed. Device Manager should show you exactly which port has been
assigned to the programming cable. You don't have to guess.
