Thank you for your reply.  I've not followed this subject until a couple of days ago, what exactly is the ftdi interface?  I'm going to try the driver Larry sent me but if that doesn't work, I may need to find one of these ftdi interfaces.

I had similar problems with my UV-3R programming cable which also uses the pl2303 chip.
I replaced it with a ftdi interface, it works great now.
