Dan,
I got it working early this morning and updated the ticket. I am puzzled as the only thing I can see that I did differently was to wait for a few seconds after I clicked "OK" on chirp, before pressing the "vm" button on the radio.
Thank You for all of your help.
And to answer the barrage of questions I got about Mint13 w/cinnamon. Hated gnome3, like Mint13 w/cinnamon. Feel free to send any questions off list.

Dan,
I am using the serial port on the computer. It is a Dell Optiplex GX280. dual core 32bit P4 with 3GB of memory. I blew Windows away and installed Mint 13 w/cinnamon. I am at work at the moment (50 miles from home). I'll give it another shot tonight and send you the log if I cannot get it to work. I am hoping it is some little step I am forgetting.

I started off using the same combination of buttons that I used for the G4HFQ software.
Yes, it's the same combination/procedure.
Are you really using the integrated serial port on your machine, or a USB adapter? Please attach your debug log so I can take a look.
