two other things to check,

plug the radio into said cable, turn it on

# lsusb

to see if it listed

and

check that your linux user is added to the dialout group

# groups

if not add your self to that group.

Check the port name in Chirp and fix those pesky lowercase "usb" with uppercase "USB".

Since dmesg says that the port name is /dev/ttyUSB0 and Chirp looks for /dev/ttyusb0.

I wonder how it could work before.

Attempt to read radio's configuration:

And then results in:

"could not open port /dev/ttyusb0: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/dev/ttyusb0"
