Yes using data cable in the jack on the side.

Will unistall and do a fresh install of the latest daily build and try again.

That won't help. CHIRP is not like most Windows software :)

Will also load it on a different computer.

That would be a good thing to test.

Will also load only one or two channels with the icom software and see if chirp can read that.

If it's not detecting the model, then it hasn't even gotten to the contents of the radio and thus changing them won't make a difference.
