Seriously? More like the Yaesu.

But even the cheaper options are made by reputable companies (Acer, Dell, HP).

Here's how to run Linux apps on Chromebook (if you have the requisite version of ChromeOS, etc.)

Also found an old (2 years old) Reddit article where someone mentions in passing running CHIRP using Crouton on a Chromebook (and that it was working for them). Crouton lets you run Linux apps on ChromeOS. But its function has been rolled into ChromeOS now (see the link above).

There are lots of different ways to *try* to run Windows software on a Chromebook:

I am a VMware Workstation owner since version 2.04, and a Connectix Virtual PC user on Macintosh since long before Microsoft bought that product and sold a version for the Wintel platform. IIRC, USB port sharing was not in the original feature set for either product. So the virtual machine based solutions in that article may not provide any access to your radio.
Anyway, based on that article, you'll have more options with an Intel (vs. ARM) based Chromebook. In which case, maybe install Windows there instead?

Chromebooks can run Linux apps now (or at least some of them can). I've not tried it, though (I have a really old Chromebook). But if you want to run CHIRP on a Chromebook, that seems like the most likely way to do so.

I don’t think you can install anything on a Chromebook. I’ll find out though.

Ay of you running C Are any of you running chirp on a recent Chromebook?. All the searching I've done brings up results from a year or more ago. I'm assuming that installing some version of wine is still the way to go.
