Well to be sure, I'd download the driver, and copy/install it to your computer, and then update the driver for your port that the cable is plugged into, and browse for that driver you just downloaded. Hi, Do you have any recommendations on what cable to buy that will insure that it’s not counterfeit. Am I supposed to actually see the words prolific somewhere none of my ports use that term thanks

James, Here's a bit from an old message I saved, it may help your situation: Glenn
The most common problem is using a programming cable with a counterfeit Prolific chip with Windows. If the chip is Prolific (check Device Manager) and you are using Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 10, you must download, install and select an older Prolific v3.2.0.0 device driver before you programming cable will work properly.
Check this page for a link to the driver and instructions for selecting it after it is installed. Only install this driver if Windows recognizes the chip in your cable as a Prolific type chip. http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php

Hi, Yes I’m using Window I believe it’s Window 10 I’m pretty sure it’s com6 I have three USB ports, tried all of them, they all say I’m plugged into com6. Yes when I’m in device manager I have pulled out the cable and it disappears. The cable does not start off as com6 only after I go through the update. If I don’t update the port, CHIRP will not recognize the cable while trying to clone. Also when I first insert the cable it has the yellow triangles before updating

Hi James, Are you using Windows? Are you certain that the cable is Com 6 in your device manager? You can open device manager and then remove the cable to see if a port then disappears. Otherwise, you may need to open the device properties on that com port and select an older driver, Windows may have used the driver it wants to use for your cable. If you are using Linux, select USB at the end of the com port list. Good morning,
I bought a set of Baofeng UV-82hp radios a few weeks ago since than I have not been able to program them. I tried two different cables so far the one that came with the radios and one that I bought from Amazon, the Amazon cable says it’s FTDI, it does flash and recognize my radios but I get an error message while trying to clone says that the radio can’t be Recognized by com port 6. I’ve tried to update, install, reinstall the ports abound twenty times. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. I’m going to try another cable any Sunday would be great!
