Actually, the cable is genuine and is sold by Yaesu.
I thought something about this was familiar, so I did a bit of searching.
I found a thread from February of last year on this list regarding someone trying to get this cable working with Linux. What we learned is that it contains an FTDI chipset, but it's using a custom ID so that the standard FTDI drivers won't load. Unfortunately, this also means that it most likely won't work for Mac, either. As far as we could tell, only Windows drivers are provided for this specific cable.
Here's part of the thread: - http://intrepid.danplanet.com/pipermail/chirp_users/2015-February/007260.htm...
If you could somehow get the FTDI driver to recognize the RATOC-specific IDs, you might have a chance. But as far as I can tell, no one as done this.

Hi, I've got a Macbook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) and a Yaesu SCU-18 cable. My version of OS X is 10.11.5 Beta 3, but I've had issues with 10.11.4 on up through Beta 3.
I've installed the Python Runtime from KK7DS, and chirp runs, but I can't select the driver for my cable.
I've tried a few drivers, but nothing seems to map to the /dev/cu.* I've tried the PL-2303HX Rev D Chipset http://prolificusa.com/portfolio/pl2303hx-rev-d-usb-to-serial-bridge-controller/ driver, and the FTDIUSBSerialDriver_v2_3.dmg driver, but neither seem to work.. Are there other drivers/sources I can try?
Thanks!
