That depends on your Linux distriution.  You might have a GUI to
stop the printing system or from the command line something like:

    /etc/init.d/cups stop

    service cups stop

If you can't figure out how to shutdown the service using it's management
scripts you could probably just kill all instances of cupsdwith:

    killall cupsd

Of course don't forget to get that all restarted before the next time
you want to print.
