Glenn, I will try to help you out. I hope this email gets to you. I have had problems in the past trying to post here. No matter what i try they get rejected... You are correct on the knobs. On page 11 of the user manual there is a diagram of the "knobs" and "keys" which is what they call the buttons. There are numbers with lines pointing to the knobs, and then also to groups of the keys. There is a chart starting under the diagram that continues on page 12 and then on page 13. This describes the knobs and keys and their function. In the diagram the group numbering starts at the top left knob with "1" then goes counter clockwise to the lower left knob as "2" then the first four keys/buttons at bottom left are "3". The bottom center button which is slightly taller than the others is "4", then the four buttons to the bottom right are "5". "6" is the bottom right knob, then up to the top right knob "7". The vertical keys beside the knobs on the left and right are "8".
The top left knob is "1" in the diagram and under the heading "NO." in the table/chart. Under heading "KEY" it is listed as "LEFT DIAL". Under the next heading "FUNCTION", there are four different functions listed numbered 1 thru 4. 1. Tuning dial for the "left" band. 2. Short press the knob to set the "left" band as the "Main" band. 3. Enable rapid tuning (in 1 MHz steps) when the "left" band is set to be the "Main" band in VFO mode. 4. Press and hold in this knob for 1/2 second to toggle the operating band on the left side as follows: 144 MHz -> 350 MHz -> 430 MHz -> 850 MHz -> 29 MHz -> 50 MHz...
The bottom left knob is "2" in the diagram and "NO." heading. It is listed as "LEFT VOL/SQL" under the "KEY" heading. It has four listings under "FUNCTION" heading. 1. The outer VOL (Volume) control adjusts the "left" receiver speaker audio level. 2. Short press the knob to switch single receive mode "on" and "off". 3. Press and hold this knob for 1/2 second to switch the front panel keys LOCK feature "on" and "off". 4. The inner SQL (Squelch) control adjusts the "left" receiver background noise.
Along the bottom of the radio face there are 4 keys in group 3 in the diagram and under the "NO." heading, designated LEFT, labeled from left to right as follows: "LOW", "V/M", "HM", & "SCN". Under the "KEY" heading the first key on bottom left is labeled LEFT [LOW]. In the chart/table it denotes the keys from the knobs by using brackets [ ] for just the key description as marked on the radio. It has 2 listings under the "FUNCTION" heading. 1. Short press the key to switch power output level of the "left" band (LOW, MID2, MID1, HIGH). 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to switch memory display mode between "Frequency" and "Channel Tag" when the "left" band is set to the Memory mode or Home Channel.
Under the "KEY" heading the second key from the left on the bottom in group 3 is labeled "LEFT [V/M]". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to switch frequency control for the "left" band between the VFO and Memory mode. 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to shift to the "Memory Tuning" feature when the "left" band is set to the Memory mode.
Under the "KEY" heading the third key from the left on the bottom in group 3 is labeled "LEFT [HM]". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to recall a favorite "HOME" frequency memory. 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to activate Priority Channel Scanning under VFO or MR mode.
Under the "KEY" heading the fourth key from the left on the bottom in group 3 is labeled "LEFT [SCN]". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to activate the Scanner on the "left" band. 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to set up the Scan Skip List or Preferential Scan List under MR mode.
Now we are at group 4, the center key on the bottom. The symbol on the key itself is a small square. The key appears in the diagram to be slightly taller than the other keys. In the chart/table it is labeled "[SET]". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to enter the Menu mode. 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to transfer the contents of the Main band VFO into a Memory system.
Next are the 4 bottom right keys in group 5, starting with the one to the right of the center key, or fourth from the right. It is labeled RIGHT [LOW]. Underneath that label under "KEY" in parentheses is "(Default)". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to switch power output level of the "right" band (LOW, MID2, MID1, HIGH). 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to switch memory display mode between "Frequency" and "Channel Tag" when the "right" band is set to the Memory mode or Home Channel.
NOTE: This same key has a second set of functions under (Key Mode 2). The only reference i could find for Key Mode 2 is in the menu programming under "#14 KEY.MOD". You can program those right keys for their (Default) use "KEY1", or for the second set of functions as "KEY2". I will list all the Default descriptions and functions first, then the secondary functions you can program last.
The third key from the right in group 5 is labeled "RIGHT [V/M]". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to switch frequency control for the "right" band between the VFO and Memory mode. 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to shift to the "Memory Tuning" feature when the "right" band is set to the Memory mode.
The second key from the right in group 5 is labeled "RIGHT [HM]". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to recall a favorite "HOME" frequency memory. 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to activate Priority Channel Scanning under VFO or MR mode.

Short press the key to allow tuning in 1 MHz steps on the "Main" band VFO. 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to allow tuning in 10 MHz steps on the "Main" band VFO.
The third key from the right in group 5 is labeled "RIGHT [RPT]". It has 2 functions listed. 1. Short press the key to change the frequency shift direction: RPT- (minus shift), RPT+ (plus shift), RPT OFF (simplex). 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to reverse TX and RX frequencies on the "Main" band during split-frequency operation.
The second key from the right in group 5 is labeled "RIGHT [TONE]". It has 1 function listed. 1. Short press the key to change the Tone Squelch mode: ENC (CTCSS Encoder), ENC DEC (CTCSS Encoder & Decoder), or DCS operation.
The first key next to the knob on bottom right in group 5 is labeled "RIGHT [SUB]". It has 1 function listed. 1. Short press the key to make the next key you press act on the "Sub band". (The "Main" icon will blink on the "Sub band").
Next is the bottom right knob group 6. It is labeled "RIGHT VOL/SQL". It has 3 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. The outer VOL (Volume) control adjusts the "right" receiver speaker audio level., 2. Press and hold this knob for 1/2 second to turn the radio "on" and "off". 3. The inner SQL (Squelch) control adjusts the "right" receiver background noise.
The top right knob is group 7. It is labeled "RIGHT DIAL", and has four listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Tuning dial for the "right" band. 2. Short press the knob to set the right band as the "Main" band. 3. Enable rapid tuning (in 1 MHz steps) when the "right" band is set to be the Main band in VFO mode. 4. Press and hold in this knob for 1/2 second to toggle the operating band between 144 MHz and 430 MHz on the right side.
Now we come to group 8, the 3 vertical buttons beside the left and right knobs. The three on the left starting at the top and going down are labeled "A", "B", and "C". The three on the right starting at the top are labeled "D", "E", and "F". These are called Hyper Memory Keys. They all have the same 2 functions. 1. Press and hold in one of these buttons for 2 seconds to store the current configuration of the radio into a special "Hyper" memory bank. 2. Short press the appropriate button to recall the desired "Hyper" memory.

Well, it refers to using a button with a graphic that when converted to TXT does not make anything. So they refer to buttons that I have no way of knowing even their name. Also, if they did give the name, I would then need to have someone read where each button is, like for example There are four turn knobs. I figured out that the bottom one powers it on/off and the inner dial around it is the right side squelch. There is a left volume and squelch too. Above the volume and squelches on each side, are the tuning knobs. There are three vertical buttons between the knobs and display on each side, and there are nine buttons between the knobs. The fourth and ninth say scan on them. That is all I know. Glenn

The trouble with that is that I can't yet use the radio, because the manual describing the buttons don't say which buttons in a way a Blind person can read. So I'm frustratingly trying to get some stuff f into it that I can use. Glenn

You haven't fully populated the rows. The need to look close to the rows above. One of the differences would be that Mode would be AM. The best way to know how it should look is to program a memory in the radio and then export it to a CSV file. Then use that as a template for the rest.
