OKAY... This is strange. I turned the radio off. Started the program. Told it to read the radio. It started to read the radio but it said error on each line. I turned the radio on and it went back and filled in where it did not read at first. In other words I had to turn the radio on after I started the download from the radio.
Presumably because you chose the driver specifically (i.e. not "detect") which means chirp doesn't do the detection part and goes straight to talking to the radio. The radio is off, and doesn't respond (obviously).
