Hi Chuck,
Could it be that your battery is the problem?
Can you keep it in the charging cradle while doing the Chirp work?

HI, I followed your advice and took it slow. I waited a minimum of 10 seconds, I put a strangle hold on the plug and radio to insure the plug was fully into the socket. I double checked the USB plug was in the USB socket and it was connected to the Win 10 computer as COM 3.

the radio is still not connecting to CHIRP. About 3 seconds after starting the download, the radio seems to shut itself off and restart.

thanks for your time and help.

Hello,

I have programed well over a hundred UV-5x radios and have had both easy and hard times programing them.

One thing that I learned is to slow down, waiting about 10 seconds between actions taken on the computer. This solve most of the error problems.

If that does not work, most of the rest to the time ,it is solved by pushing the programing cable into the radio and keep pressure on the cable until the pride is programed.  I have to push it VERY hard.

On a windows machines you have to select the right com port (I am mostly a mac person so I find the right port by trial and error).

As an aside, using more that 60 cables to program the radios, I have only found one cable that was defective, so that is most likely, not the problem.

I forgot that you are on Windows.  The windows OS is very poor supporting USB.  You might try going into the device manager and tell it to show hidden devices.  Once that is done, look at the USB entries and delete all of them that are diminished icons.  That is, they are lighter than the other icons.
Good luck.

hi, still no luck.
I went to the web site and put a death-grip on the plug and held it in as far as it would go. I trimmed a hair of the edges of the plug to let it seat on the bottom.

thanks for the suggestions

On Wednesday my 2 BaoFeng UV 5R radios could download and upload to CHIRP.

On Friday all I got was the following message:  Radio Did Not Respond.

I tried reloading the latest version of CHIRP, no change.  I tried an earlier version of CHIRP, no change. I reloaded the latest version back, no change.  Visually the radio's red light blinks then the LED display blinks then the error message shows up on CHIRP.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Chuck KJ7INT
