I finally got XP Service Pack 3 to install after researching that.
Chirp still will not work. I get the same error as before. Chirp says that it is not configured right! I am not sure how it can be configured wrong since it doesn't even start up. I get the same error as before. I appreciate everyone trying to heklp me, but this just sin;t working out well at all. Now the laptop is fairly hosed and almost nothing runs properly anymore. It's super slow to boot or draw icons, and the mouse ponter will sometimes disappear and the CTRL-AL-DEL fails.
I am letting Advanced System Care take a look at it overnight, and hopefully wtomorrow I will have a working computer, but I am startuing to really have doubts about using Chirpo ojn that one.
I guess I could try Chirp on one of my newer WIndows 7 systems and see if it plays better. Looks like a lot of XP users might be shut out of Chirp. Maybe I was just unlucky?
Is there some other program that will allow me to load the memories of my new Yaesu FT857D? Any kind of suggestions would be welcome.

Many thanks OM. I feel like I am shooting in the dark here though. DLL issues. I know what a DLL is but I have no idea how to fix this error.
It may not be an error with Chirp, but Chirp is the only program having his failure.
I guess I can search. One day there will be some time to actually operate radios, but in the meantime all of this wonderful technology is so busy making our lives "easier." You can see why some guys love the old tube rigs. Far less aggravation.
Picture of the error is attached.

I will try that. So far CHIRP is not working for me. I
downloaded and installed it. However it fails to run and says that it is not configured properly.
You are having a known windows problem On a previous request Dan wrote:
This has been covered on this list many times. Please check the

for the details.
The error message you're getting has nothing to do with CHIRP,
and is a
generic Windows warning that you have some DLL version issues.
for that "application configuration is incorrect" message and
you'll
find oodles of hits affecting lots of different applications.
Get that
straightened out and you'll be set.

Does anyone have a Chirp file for loading up the Central
Florida. / Orlando
area repeaters? I will be using a Yaesu FT847D
You could use RepeaterBook:
http://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/LocationSearch.php?state_id=12 &type=city&loc=Orlando
That's a great idea Bry.
