The problem was the connector needed trimming. Many thanks!

Subject: [chirp_users] Baofeng UV-5R5 "Radio did not respond"
I just got a Baofeng UV-5R5 radio and Baofeng UV-5R Programming Cable. I installed CHIRP 20150814 and Prolific v3.2.0.0 drivers. When I try to “Download >From Radio”, I get “An error has occurred – Radio did not respond”.
I hope CHIRP supports the UV-5R5 because the Baofeng software appears to be in Chinese. Every character displays as a “?” so I don’t know if there’s a way to switch it to English.
