I bought an old Acer netbook for next to nothing just for that purpose. Runs Linux and chirp fine.

Also if anybody is interested I found an 8 inch tablet I believe it was the runs Windows and Android both. I thought that was especially unique so I'm going to keep my eye on that one as well. On Nov 17, 2015 11:55 AM, "Kenneth L. Bechtel, II" < kbechtel@teamanti-virus.org> wrote:
Yes, My Asus convertible runs chirp handily. I’ve been using it for a year now, and recently updated it to Win10, It supports my activities in RACES/ARES as well as a Communications officer with the Local Search and Rescue team.

Paulo, are you saying that it is not likely that software will never be developed for Android? That would be quite disappointing if so. I wonder are there any tablets that run Windows! would it work that way?

Not really. You already have drivers for SDR, USB to RS232 adapters, and so on. It's just a matter of the type of radio (driver on cable or on radio) and the driver used. If it recognizes it as an COM port, it should work. The software is the tricky part.

Oh what fun it'll be to port CHIRP (written in Python) to either
Android/IOS.
Biggest problem will be communicating between device and radio - just like it is with Windows/OS X

Calling all app developers! Please, please develop some software so
that we
can use chirp with our Android phones and tablets so that we can take massive programming of the radios into the field where it is needed the most. Please! It would be so helpful to us. thank you.
