I'd like to add to this. Once you get the proper driver installed, especially in Windows 7, leave your cables plugged into the same port. If you switch USB ports, Windows 7 may re-enumerate the cable's ID tag in the registry and go out to the internet driver cloud and download the latest driver which might not work. So it's best to buy a USB hub if you can't dedicate one USB port to the cable. I had to do this since I have four different cables for 3 transceivers and a GRE digital scanner. Also have a bluetooth dongle, USB laser printer and USB keyboard/mouse combo.

Your cable is more than likely okay. The driver for Win7 is Prolific 3.2.0.0, XP is 2.0.2.1 Any driver newer than that will have potential issues. Refer to the Drivers section of http://www.miklor.com/UV82 http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php The proper drivers are available there. If you are receiving error messages, refer to the miklor.com Error Message page. Please report back to see if this resolves the issue. Hope this helps. There are at least 2 different cables available, the one with the silver label worked Mats SM0BTP
