I need some help here please. I have LinuxMint 14 installed on my laptop. Mint sees my USB cable as ttyUSB0. However, all Chirp sees is tty0 and above, no USB anything, thus I can't begin to connect to anything until I can get Chirp to recognize my USB ports.

Would that be because CHIRP uses serial ports and not USB ports? The programming cable's job is to create a psudo serial port for CHIRP to use. Have you added your user to the 'dialout' group?
