Needs a 3.5mm 4 contact jack plug in the mic/ear socket. Use the outermost ring and sleeve.

I'd recommend the FTDI type of cables because they don't seem to have problems with counterfeit chips in them.

Hi Lamar,
Are you using the latest CHIRP daily build? The repository shows that the Yaesu FT-50 driver was "overhauled" in January 2016 and a test image was added in February 2016.
Using the latest daily build (CHIRP daily-20170324), I am able to select Yaesu FT-50 as the Vendor/Model of radio that I want to download from. The Yaesu FT-50 test image from the CHIRP repository also loaded fine,
