Newbie question, sorry :)  Not sure where else to ask...

Noticed here:

it says firmwares are not changable on the Baofeng UV-5R radios..

but then reading some postings led to this directory:

with list of firmwares.. and someone alluding to being able to switch or flush these?

If I have a device with a given firmware, then for the life it cannot be changed?
