I guess that you mean the above to be interpreted as a question and a
request for help in using Chirp.
I'm no expert and won't attempt to answer but:
If you wish someone on this list to help you use Chirp to connect to
your radio, it probably would be a good idea to give them a bit more
information.
What did you try specifically to do? What operating system? What
responses did Chirp give you? Which version of Chirp are you trying to
use? Have you been successful with Chirp before? Etc.

Hi all. I bought a KT8900 at the beginning of the year, and my FTDI cable showed up about a week ago. Eager to get more than 2 channels programmed in (the programming interface sucks!), I plugged my cable in to the BACK of the radio like all the sites say, and.... Nothing... Fiddle, fiddle, fiddle, nothing. Different radio models, the whole works, radio would not respond.?
My model has what the manual calls a data terminal jack on the front.
I tried it, the cable fit perfectly, and the radio responded just fine. I don't know if this is true if all KT8900s, but if yours has a front jack, it's a good idea to try it.
Cheers

You're correct - on your model the programming port is on the front and the
back jack is for an external speaker. I have the same one. Apparently,
when they first came out, there was only one jack and it was on the back -
for programming only. And that's when all the online reviews and guides (
www.miklor.com, etc.) were written. Then, they put out a revised model
that put the programming port on the front and a ext. speaker port on the
back - plus added a fan. A very confusing design choice, in my opinion.
It's a great radio, though.

I have a KT8900, but the cable plugs into the back. I had to try different
cables and drivers to find one that would work.
Too many of the USB cables are CLONES of the original and do not work
The CHIRP software works for my radio, but I do have to fiddle and reset
the radio before it would finally program correctly.
Good Luck

As the FT-8100R is currently not supported, you would need to open a format request.
To do this, you would need to go to the CHIRP website: http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home
Register to the website (upper right corner)
Select the Issues Tab and verify that the request for the new radio hasn't already been submitted.
If it's not found, select the New Issue tab and submit your request. Check back periodically to review the status of your request.
They may request that a sample radio and current software be sent so they can backward engineer it.

I do not see the Yaesu FT-8100R listed as a supported radio.
Will Chirp work with my FT-8100R ?
Thank you.

Off topic from CHIRP, but another quirky thing I found on the QYT KT8900: I
kept seeing in descriptions that it had the "reverse" function (where you
can quickly switch over to listen on the reverse for repeaters). But, mine
wouldn't ever do it when I would hit the */scan button like on the
Baofengs. Finally, I saw somewhere that they were saying for *Baofengs*
you had to turn off dual-watch (TDR) - which *wasn't* true on any of the
Baofengs I have (UV-5R5, UV-5RTP, UV-82) - they could flip over to the
reverse even when in dual-watch mode. But, I tried turning dual-watch off
on my QYT KT8900 and voila! - hitting */scan finally worked to listen on
the reverse. So, if you're trying to get reverse to work on the QYT
KT8900, turn OFF dual-watch/TDR (menu 0) and then it should work when you
press */scan.

How are you powering the radio? Are you sure your source of power is
at the proper voltage and supplying adequate current?

Yeah, power is a good thing to check. Maybe move it to another vehicle. I
would also check to make sure in CHIRP that all of your channels didn't get
set to duplex off. And check your microphone plug... Maybe your PTT isn't
triggering. Try another mic if you can. The red light should come on when
you push the PTT button.
You should also check with the return policy of where you bought it.
