the procedure for replying to a specific message is unclear?
hope this works...

mageia 4 64bit
KDE Desktop environment
Chromium browser

when I tried to install from the link on the wiki
http://d-rats.com/yum/f11/d-rats-repo-0.1.2-1.fc11.noarch.rpm
with software installer, the procedure starts, asks me if I'm sure
& then nothing

this link works
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/updates/20/i386/chirp-0.4.0-1.fc20.noarch.rpm

which would mean fedora keeps an updated version in their repository I think...
I don't see the working link of the wiki page

Mageia being downstream of RedHat>Fedora
there would be no real need to get the mageia devs to bring chirp onboard
at least until I could actually try to use it some
I haven't been able to get it working as yet, nor the UV-5Rs I intend to use.  I just need basic 2 way communication on my ranch.

I'll be happy to get any answers you request from mageia

I don't understand
"Also the rpm package you linked contains a yum repo definition, not an application."
Beyond use the link that works

thanks for your hard work

I have a Kenwood TM-241 that is able to handle frequencies that are able to
be resolved correctly in the Kenwood MCP-1A programmer however chirp
complains
about the band and steps

the frequency is 15x.5625.

Is there a workaround to disable the test and enter the frequency

Thanks

I think the step would be 12.5 khz. And the USA version of the 241 stops at
148 mhz.

TM-241A isnt supported by chirp - and I dont even think it supports programming - it's only 20 channels.
Perhaps you meant TM-271A ?

Hello Garth,

Though the second comment got you to explicitly install Chirp, your
original post was about getting your distribution to track the Chirp
*repository* for FUTURE releases.  When you downloaded tried to install
that Repo RPM, what did it say?  What program did you use to try
installing that Repo RPM?

Well the USA version of the the 271A has 2.5 khz steps but still only tunes
to 148. I was just perusing
through the owner's manual.

Hello and thank you to all who have given their experience here.  The issue I am having is that on my CHIRP I have the OFFSET at .600, and the DUPLEX either a + or -.  However when I upload this to my radio it does not take the settings.  My radio reads OFFSET 00.000 and DUPLEX "none".  I just finished uninstalling, and reinstalling, CHIRP.  When I did my initial upload from the radio the settings in CHIRP show the correct OFFSET and DUPLEX in the radio.  I tried to find this already reported, but did not.

Before uploading to CHIRP you must create an initial template by doing a Download From Radio.
CHIRP supports over 60 model radios and needs to know which radio it is programming.
Make updates to the template and Upload To Radio.

This can be found at http://www.miklor.com/UV5R
In the software section.

I hope this helps.

I reset the radio and uploaded it fresh.  Then I entered the information into CHIRP and downloaded it.  It still will not accept the fields.

Hi everybody,

I?d like to know, if anybody managed to program the UV-82 using chirp (or the daily build 20140428) on osx 10.9.2. I read that one might or might not have to disable apple?s own driver for FTDI chipset. I?ve been googleing the topic for a few days now and have not found a way to make it work on my mbp. The system report will tell me that a USB-Serial Controller is there:

USB-Serial Controller:

  Product ID:   0x2303
Vendor ID:    0x067b  (Prolific Technology, Inc.)
  Version:       3.00
  Speed:        Up to 12 Mb/sec
  Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc.
  Location ID:  0xfa130000 / 6
  Current Available (mA):       500
  Current Required (mA):        100

When I try to "download from radio? I have four choices in a dropdown menu, each of which will give me an error message:

- /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port                       error: An error has occurred - Radio did not respond
- /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem                               error: An error has occurred - could not open port /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem: [Errno 16] Resource busy:   '/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem'
- /dev/cu.NoZAP-PL2303-000013FA         error: Radio did not respond
- /dev/cu.usbserial                                             error: Radio did not respond

Any ideas? I am using the USB programming cable from Baofeng, that came with the radio.

btw. under windows7 (installed on the mbp) it works like a charm.

Cheers,
Chris

Adam,

Both CHIRP and your radio are working correctly.

Menu 25 (SFT-D) and menu 26 (OFFSET) only have any meaning in VFO mode.
They unnecessary in MR (channel) mode because the UV-5R and its variants
(including the UV-82) does not use them in this mode. Instead, memory
channels store both the direct RX and TX frequencies.

Visist the UV-82 home page on the miklor.com website and look for "Menu
Definitions - Detailed" to get a copy of the "Reference for UV-82 Menus".
It explains the menus and shows when they are or are not active.

http://www.miklor.com/UV82/

CHIRP lets you enter memories into the spreadsheet editor using the shift
direction and offset, but it actually does the math in the background and
sends the required RX and TX frequencies to the radio.

To verify all is working as it should, select a display (A or B) in MR mode
that has its Memory Display Format set to FREQuency (menu 21 or menu 22)
and then select a channel that has been programmed for a repeater. The
currently selected display should be showing the RX frequency. Now tap the
[*SCAN] key to put the radio into "reverse" mode.. An "R" should appear in
the upper status display and the any display with its MDF set to FREQ
should be showing the programmed TX frequency. Tap the [*SCAN] key again to
exit "reverse" mode.

In MR mode the "+-" symbol is displayed to indicate that the RX and TX
frequencies are different. This would be true for a repeater channel with
standard offset, a split channel with an odd offset, a cross-band channel
or TX inhibited channel. A separate "+" or "-" indication is only available
in VFO mode when menu 25 and menu 26 are valid.

Hi,

have you tried transmitting on a channel that is supposed to have an offset? When I look at the menu setting #26 of the uv-82 I see the same value that you do, 00.000. However when I transmit on a channel of which I know I have put an offset using Chrip, I can see that the radio switches to the adjusted offset-frequency. In channel mode you can adjust (menu# 21 & 22) whether you want to the the channel name, channel# or frequency. When on frequency one can see the switch.

Cheers,
Chris

I was wondering if that was an issue.  It seems that I can see an Rx signal but not hear it with MR, but if I switch to VFO and put it in manually I do hear it.

Adam,

Both CHIRP and your radio are working correctly.

Menu 25 (SFT-D) and menu 26 (OFFSET) only have any meaning in VFO mode. They unnecessary in MR (channel) mode because the UV-5R and its variants (including the UV-82) does not use them in this mode. Instead, memory channels store both the direct RX and TX frequencies.

Visist the UV-82 home page on the miklor.com<http://miklor.com> website and look for "Menu Definitions - Detailed" to get a copy of the "Reference for UV-82 Menus". It explains the menus and shows when they are or are not active.

http://www.miklor.com/UV82/

CHIRP lets you enter memories into the spreadsheet editor using the shift direction and offset, but it actually does the math in the background and sends the required RX and TX frequencies to the radio.

To verify all is working as it should, select a display (A or B) in MR mode that has its Memory Display Format set to FREQuency (menu 21 or menu 22) and then select a channel that has been programmed for a repeater. The currently selected display should be showing the RX frequency. Now tap the [*SCAN] key to put the radio into "reverse" mode.. An "R" should appear in the upper status display and the any display with its MDF set to FREQ should be showing the programmed TX frequency. Tap the [*SCAN] key again to exit "reverse" mode.

In MR mode the "+-" symbol is displayed to indicate that the RX and TX frequencies are different. This would be true for a repeater channel with standard offset, a split channel with an odd offset, a cross-band channel or TX inhibited channel. A separate "+" or "-" indication is only available in VFO mode when menu 25 and menu 26 are valid.

Christian,

Ik using a UV-5R and I program it with the same driver. If you want me to I can send you my driver and see if that works for you. Are you using the Kenwood style cable?

Any chance the Anytone 3318-A will be one of those radios in the future?

Hi Marthijn,

the cable I use is this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41iI3L%2BXoeL.jpg, at least from its appearance.
Sure, send me your driver. I?ll try anything once. Do you know if I need to unload the current driver?and in case I have to, how I do it? Sorry for the noob questions.

Cheers,
Chris

1. You dont have an ftdi chipset driver - so fixes for that dont apply.
2. You are using prolific (pl2303) and one of the open source drivers, as evidenced by the /dev/NoZAP* device.
3. try my driver package here:?http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/MacOS_Tips#Generic-PL-2303-cables-counterfeit-andor-?Generic?
4. it should yield a device like : /dev/tty.PL2303-xxxxxxxx

If you still get radio is not responding, then there could be a cable, and/or connection issue.
You mentioned you already eliminated that as a possibility, that you were able to program same radio and cable combo on win 7.
