There is a flatpak which has worked great for a number of users on recent Ubuntu/Fedora distributions. Check the thread back in May at http://intrepid.danplanet.com/pipermail/chirp_users/2020-May/016594.html on how to get it. You will need to install flatpak and logout/login first.
Maybe @Richard Shaw can chime in on any updates he's made since then.
