I have a KT8900, but the cable plugs into the back.  I had to try different cables and drivers to find one that would work.
Too many of the USB cables are CLONES of the original and do not work
The CHIRP software works for my radio, but I do have to fiddle and reset the radio before it would finally program correctly.
Good Luck

Hi all. I bought a KT8900 at the beginning of the year, and my FTDI cable showed up about a week ago. Eager to get more than 2 channels programmed in (the programming interface sucks!), I plugged my cable in to the BACK of the radio like all the sites say, and.... Nothing... Fiddle, fiddle, fiddle, nothing. Different radio models, the whole works, radio would not respond.

My model has what the manual calls a data terminal jack on the front.

I tried it, the cable fit perfectly, and the radio responded just fine. I don't know if this is true if all KT8900s, but if yours has a front jack, it's a good idea to try it.

Cheers
