You should be using the driver at www.miklor.com whether you run XP or Win 7 / 8.

I would suggest just tossing the idea of using whatever driver you got on the supplied CD. I ordered a cable and disc set off of Amazon, threw the disc out, downloaded everything off of CHIRP, plugged in my cable, and it went flawless. Not one hitch. This was a Baofeng UV-82. CHIRP rocks!
