Still does not work. To check, I uninstalled the Prolific 3_2_0_0 driver on my good W7 machine, followed your instructions, re installed, andeverything worked fine.I then used the SAME procedures and driver on the W8.1 machine and got the same dang error. Im sure its something specific to W8.1 or myDell 630 Laptop, but its still eluding me.Since I can program with Chirp on my UV-3R and W7 machine, I will leave it with that. Thanks for trying.73, MikeOn Wed, Jul 22, 2015 at 5:51 PM, mats.g.roos@gmail.com <mats.g.roos@gmail.com> wrote:
- Open Device Manager
- Remove Old Com ports and USB devices: Proceed to step 2 of this tutorial.
- When that is done, still in Device manager, navigate to your problem USB cable (it should have a yellow exclamation mark on it)
- Remove it, and then reinstall the driver
- If that driver will still not work then:
- Right click on it, and choose update driver.
- Click Browse my Computer...
- Click Let me pick from a list...
- A list of all of the drivers should show. Choose the oldest Prolific driver on the list. I chose version 3.2.0 from 2007
- Install it, and you're done!
If you are using PuTTy, note that when you connect, the COM port may not work as expected. What you should do, if you need to, is go into the Serial options in the main PuTTy window, and turn off flow control.
Everything should work right now.
MatsJim,I was not trying to be cute, just frustrated. I did notjust fall off the turnip truck and have been aroundWindows quite a few years. The driver is a Win_Driver_Prolific_3_2_0_0. Theerror being reported is:"This device cannot start. (Code 10){Not Enough Quota}Not enough virtual memory or paging file quota is available to complete the specified operation."The SAME driver and USB to serial cable work fine on my 64b W7 machinejust not on my W8.1 64b Dell D630.....which accounts for myfrustration. Im not sure what other info I can provide thatsrelevant but I would like to solve the problem.73Mike K5HUMOn Wed, Jul 22, 2015 at 4:03 PM, Jim Unroe <rock.unroe@gmail.com> wrote:On Wed, Jul 22, 2015 at 8:52 AM, Mike Raymond <K5HUM@arrl.net> wrote:

It doesn't help us help you when you just say "no joy". What driver is
device manager showing you have? How about attaching a screen capture
of the driver tab of the programming cable?
