Hello Patrick,
Per the official documentation at http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Running_Under_Linux , the easiest approach would be to install the PPA but it seems Dan is only building for x86-based CPUs (not ARM) today. That's ok though as the Chirp code is just Python. Just follow the "Manual installation from source" section and you should be good to go!
Ps. When downloading Chirp, you'll probably want to use the newest daily build and not some of the older builds.
