Does Chirp connect via the TH-D72A usb port ?

I'm not sure, you'll have to ask Vernon. He did the driver and I don't have one to use. He is copied on this.

Is there setup information? ( I looked back a couple of months in archives and also looked at beginners guide)

Setup information or CHIRP or the D72? There is neither, but if you have general questions about chirp, ask them here.
