Greetings:
I don't have any ICOM experience, but I know that with my Yaseu I have to push the PTT switch to send the radio info to CHIRP. I then have to push the MONITOR switch to allow CHIRP to load back into the radio. This flumoxed me for a while, as my Baofeng just sits there and communicates directly from the CHIRP commands.
Hope this is helpful.
Good day, Marty Braun KC3AID

Glad you got it going. Another point specific to this radio, at least to mine is to be sure the plug is all the way in the radio.
Ditto with my first attempt to cable up my Wouxun. Thought the cable was fully seated but no soap. Then pushed just a little harder and it snicked in another 1/16th inch. Et voila!

I tried uploading data from my Icom HT to my MacBook and I still get the "Failed to communicate with the radio: Unexpected response from radio." message. Previously, I thought that I had maybe a cable problem, so today I used a known good cable (works with my KX3), but still no luck. I'm running Mac OS 10.8.4 and installed Chirp 0.3.1 and KK7DS Python Runtime RIO. I tired with just turning the radio on, and then with the radio placed in the Clone mode, but it makes no difference.
What am I missing?

Hello, all;
Recently I have been using a bootable CD of CHIRP to take with me to radio club (Voice of Idaho) activities to help newbies program their radios. Works great, but I thought that a thumb drive would be handier since I could store some data files on it. Now, I have a fair familiarity with Linux but this stumps me. I created the boot-able thumb-drive and copied the CHIRP data files to the documents folder on it. They went on with no error messages and opened in CHIRP. Everything seemed fine until I rebooted the system and found that those data files were gone.
So, I am wondering why they were gone and what can I do to fix this.
