I've used CHIRP to program two different Yaesu radios.  Talked to a Yaesu tech one time.  He claimed he knew of instances where Yaesu radios were "bricked" so badly they had to be sent back to Yaesu.  Yet, outside of someone who stood to make money selling either RT Systems software or worked for Yaesu, I've not had one single person claim to have actually experienced a bricked Yaesu.

So use CHIRP to enter most of your info, manually enter the little bit of split tone you need. Yaesus are easy to program.

I tried CHIRP on the FT-7800R with no problems and nothing broke but I
can't use CHIRP because it doesn't support split tone mode and the
developers aren't interested in adding it.

Years ago when I bought the radios I bought FTB7800 programming software
from G4HFQ https://www.g4hfq.co.uk. Its cheap fully supports everything
in the radio unlike CHIRP.
