Bob,

The CHIRP driver is idrp.py and for some reason it does not show up as
a choice in CHIRP (I believe it should be "ID-2000V/4000V/2D/2V").
Most of the activity of this driver appears to be from 2009 to 2012. I
installed a daily build from May of 2012 and March of 2012 and there
was still not a selection for this Icom model.

I can download from the radio but cannot upload same file back to the
radio.  The following error occurs:

Unsupported Firmware Version ....N5R-313F8HP-1

Have successfully used the cable for Uv5r+ just now but new Bf-F8HP gives
the error above.  Help? Mike

It doesn't sound like you are using the latest CHIRP daily build.
Which version of CHIRP are you using?

There is no support for the BF-F8HP in V0.4.1. Because of firmware
changes, it is not recommended that the stable release be used for any
Baofeng UV-5R variants including the BF-F8HP. Upgrade to the latest
daily build for BF-F8HP support
