When I try to read the radio it does not identify the model number correctly.  It sees that the radio is a Yaesu but the wrong one.

If you have an FT-1802, give it a try with Chirp's FT-1802M driver. I
wrote it and I only had an FT-1802M to test it with. I can't tell you
if the FT-1802 is any different because I've never touched one. They
could be exactly the same.

What I would do to test it is manually enter a few memory channels in
the FT-1802. Then download into Chirp and make sure those channels are
where they're supposed to be (channel 1 is channel 1, etc.) and that
all the frequencies and tones are correct. If it all looks good then
there's probably no change to the memory layout between FT-1802 and
FT-1802M.
