The v2+ is not a model we sell or support and this is the issue
Our models are CHIRP compatible _______________________________________________ chirp_users mailing list chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com http://intrepid.danplanet.com/mailman/listinfo/chirp_users This message was sent to trevor@holyoak.com at trevor@holyoak.com To unsubscribe, send an email to chirp_users-unsubscribe@intrepid.danplanet.com Curley Frazier ricknbrook@gmail.com Wednesday, June 08, 2016 8:33 PM
My complaint
Regarding Firmware. If you refuse to provide Firmware to CHIRP programmers I will stop supporting your business & stop using your radios. I have sent you a lot of sales because of CHIRP & how easy it is to use. I love your radios & CHIRP. Together they are great! Honestly your software sucks! It is very difficult to use. I will not try it again. I suggest you supply CHIRP with the UV-5RV2+ & any future firmware or I will boycott your products & send new radio interests elsewhere. _______________________________________________ chirp_users mailing list chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com http://intrepid.danplanet.com/mailman/listinfo/chirp_users This message was sent to trevor@holyoak.com at trevor@holyoak.com To unsubscribe, send an email to chirp_users-unsubscribe@intrepid.danplanet.com Jim Unroe rock.unroe@gmail.com Wednesday, June 08, 2016 3:09 PM
I'm glad to see you have it worked out.
UV-5R style radio development for CHIRP has been quited active over the last 4+ years. Except for a few recent models that chose not to provide their firmware version, it you cannot program your UV-5R variant, there is a 99% chance that it is a cabling problem (device driver and/or connection of the cable to the radio).

It ended up being three issues:
- The speaker and mic jacks on my new UV-5RV2+ are not centered. They
are off by a few mm. Therefore, my programming cable would not seat correctly. Trimmed the cable plug with a utility knife until it seated properly. Incidentally, my old UV-5RA has the jacks centered.
- While trimming the cable plug, I accidentally cut the ground wire.
After repairing that, the old UV-5RA could be read with CHIRP.
- The 2014 version of CHIRP does not talk to the new UV-5RV2+. The
latest build does work correctly with the UV-5RV2+. Thanks !
A learning experience.

This is always how you should do it. Never upload a .img to a radio different than it was downloaded from. You never know what could be in that .img file that may not be compatible with a different radio due to differing firmware versions, etc.
Always start by downloading from radio, save that .img as a backup. Then you can start copy/pasting or importing channels from various sources. Save as a new file so as not overwrite your backup, then upload to radio.
