There is a driver install package that Jens put together and I forget where he put it on the net that works with very Prolific cable counterfeit or not on OSX Mountain Lion + 32 or 64 bit. I know where the driver package is but the installer is in spanish. That's what I used at first up to OSX 64 bit Mavericks. I installed Jens package and it removed the spanish driver and another driver I installed at first that didn't work. So Jens package cleans things up. I hope Jens can chime in here with the link. I might still have that file on my MacBook Pro but I don't know where I could stick it for those Mac users who might need it. Main thing is don't give up. I waited 2 months before I came across by data mining the right driver and since I know enough about the package install process and some spanish I had no problem getting my Prolific cable to play nice with Lion 64, then Mountain Lion 64 and onward to the current version.

Hey Steve, from the reviews at the amazon link you provided, I gather that this cable uses a "counterfeit" of the Prolific chip. Pretty common. I'd give a try to the "Generic" PL 2303 driver & see how that goes. http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/MacOS_Tips
If you have too many drivers loaded, that might be a problem, so you might consider trying to simplify and pull the excess drivers out, although if you select the correct driver, it will probably work anyway.
What Mac OSX are you using?
If it gets too frustrating, just get a FTDI cable and your problems will be over. The FTDI cables cost more (like $23) but no hassle. Kind of crazy that the whole radio can cost under $40, but the programming cable costs more than half that.
If you decide to go with a FTDI cable, I think you'd use this one:

BTW: the radio MUST be on channel mode rather than frequency mode.
Also, on some models the cable doesn't want to push all the way into the jack. Some people have had to trim the cable or plastic housing around the hole to get it clearance to plug all the way in.

I believe I’ve tried ALL these drivers, but I’ll look through them again.

Hi Steve, Have you tried these drivers? You'll need to know which cable you have.
THe cables have electronics in them.

tried all the drivers I can find but don't see the MacBook recognizing the USB cable. Any ideas? Thanks.
