You should be using the driver at www.miklor.com whether you run XP or Win 7 / 8.

I would suggest just tossing the idea of using whatever driver you got on the supplied CD. I ordered a cable and disc set off of Amazon, threw the disc out, downloaded everything off of CHIRP, plugged in my cable, and it went flawless. Not one hitch. This was a Baofeng UV-82. CHIRP rocks!

I am new to this list and probably am making mistakes that are already well known!
I bought a cheap cable running the 2303 chip, which I found later is not so good.
The drivers on the supplied CD seem to work OK, but when I go to use CHIRP, I get an "Error Occurred" message saying "could not open port COM3: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified."
Is there anything I can try here, or should I just shop for a better cable?
