I have an FT-50R and I am using the latest CHIRP release, CHIRP daily-20200430. There is no need to press the PTT 3 times. The instructions for the FT-50R are to hold the PTT and Knob while powering on the radio. (The knob is on the top of the radio and must be pressed down.) To clarify, press the PTT and the knob and then press the orange power button. All three must be pressed at the same time. The radio's display will read 'CLON'. From CHIRP select 'Radio' and 'Download from Radio' and then your port, 'Yaesu' and 'FT-50'. Click OK. The instructions will pop-up if enabled. Click OK. Once CHIRP's cloning dialog for the FT-50R is present on the screen, press the PTT once and the radio should clone. I hope this helps. Rich Gordon k0eb

[chirp_users] CHIRP issue with OS X Catalina

Hello all Catalina users, Has anyone found why CHIRP now refuse to read the Desktop? I always had my CHIRP files in a folder in the Desktop since I got the MacBook, Circa 2014. But since OS X Catalina, I get an error popup telling me that CHIRP cannot read the Desktop and folders below. It seems to be true for almost anywhere but my Home directory. but this does not seems to be a safe practice as Desktop is a folder in the home directory. It is the same with the folder “Documents”. Is that a normal CHIRP behavior? The only way I could make it works is to move the CHIRP folder from the Desktop to the Home directory. Why the CHIRP folder cannot be in the Desktop or in Documents? I humbly wish and believe all posts about installing chirp on anything besides windows and Mac OS should start their own list. I will unsubscribe soon if I see many more posts about installing chirp on Linux. If you try to use any distro of linux as your OS of choice you better be savvy enough, like my son Chris, to solve these issues on your own. GET OFF MY LAWN!!! -- Dennis M. Only 99 channels with Kenwood TM-281A Hi All: Been trying to use CHIRP to program my Kenwood TM-281A. This radio is specced for 200 channels but, according to literature, reverts to 100 channels when names are used. When I download from the radio it only allows me 100 channels (0-99), even when I import a CSV file with the names deleted. When I click on the memory range I am unable to go past 99 (upward arrow greyed out). Is there a way to open up the memory to 200 channels? Thanks!

[chirp_users] Fedora COPR for Fedora 32 and EL 8

As a stop gap measure I have created a COPR for chirp with the missing python2 requirements. https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/hobbes1069/chirp/ I have built chirp for Fedora 32, Fedora Rawhide, and EL 8. One of the dependencies is libxml2 which is a C library with python bindings. Hopefully it doesn't cause any issues with the Fedora version but I'll have to stay on top of any updates to the Fedora version. This a very much a less than ideal situation but I haven't found a better one. I tried setting up a flatpak but gave up. The documentation is too poor and trying to write JSON is an exercise in frustration. Thanks, Richard KF5OIM
