[chirp_users] Trouble loading Chirp on a laptop

Folks, I finally got authorized to send emails here. Well, in my previous email(s), I stated I’m having issues loading Chirp. I’ve tried and tried and, it just won’t load. I followed all the instructions and all I get is the Chirp.exe. file. If I click on that, it (the supposed download) starts all over again. When I click on the part that’s highlighted, “Windows users will need the latest version”, I don’t get on the next screen what youtube instructors are showing what should appear. They get, at the bottom of the screen, a text bar that runs across the bottom saying: Run, save, and if you click on a down arrow, you’ll see “Run AND Save”. I don't get that bar. I also don’t get the small text block in the middle of the screen that wants info on “com port”, radio type etc. Gang, I need help here. Everyone else seems to load Chirp just fine. The UV-B5 and the B6 are basically the same radio. Read from the radio first (tell it it's a B5), open your 5R file, then copy your channel sheet over the B6. You can then set the particular options for this radio with the B5 options. Hello, I just subscribed to this list. Could not find an answer to my question in the FAQ section, so I hope it is OK to ask here. I am using chirpw on an Ubuntu system. It is the newest version, CHIRP daily-20190201. I have been using it for a while for two different Baofeng UV-5Rs and it works fine. I then ordered a Baofeng UV-B6 which arrived last week. Before ordering it, I made sure it is in the list of supported models. So I tried first to download whatever is stored on the radio and I planned to then modify that (this is what I did with the UV-5Rs). However, I found that the UV-B6 is not in the drop-down list of models I can choose. The UV-B5 is listed but when I tried this setting it did not work. Help? Thank you!

[chirp_users] IC-92AD Strangeness

Does anyone use Chirp with the Icom 92AD? I have used it for the radio, normally just to program the frequencies I use around my area of travel. But I want to do a bit more, but I see somethings that do not square. Taking into account that the radio has been around I guess for 10 years or more it does not talk over the RS-232 link very fast, so it does take some time for Chirp to pull in every- thing. But after I have allowed it to do it's download from the radio, I am left with a notice at the bottom reading as follows: [0] Getting Bank information for Memory 849. Here is the memory info taken from the manual: The IC-92AD has 850 memory channels in the A band, 450 memory channels in the B band, and 2 call channels in each band. Memory channels in each band include 50 scan edge memory channels (25 pairs) for storage of often-used fre- quencies, respectively. And a total of 26 memory banks, A to Z, are available in each band for storing groups of frequencies, etc. Up to 100 channels can be assigned into a bank. It appears that something it halting at memory 849, and it can proceed no further. If I look at what is loaded into Chirp I see that the following screens are populated Memories (Band A) Banks (Band A) Memories (Band B) These are not populated Bank Names (Band A) Banks (Band B) Bank Names (Band B) D-Star Yet I am using both memory banks (analogue is A and D-Star is on B) I have bank names on with frequencies in them, so not sure what is going on. But it looks like Chirp is not reading past memory 849. Also I used to be able to change channel data (freq, tone etc) and since the IC-92AD is a "live radio" I would see the changes show up in the radio immediately, now I see nothing, also if I try to use the refresh button, the screen in question goes blank. I am running Mate 18.04. Chirp is Rev daily-20190201 The IC-92AD was why I started using Chirp, back in those times I could do anything to the radio made the Icom software for which they charge (still) and outrageous amount looked stupid. Yeah, it had a screen that showed a image of the radio and what was on the radio screen, big deal I could look at the Chirp screen that showed the channels and see EXACTLY what I wanted to see plus what was in above and below that channel. Is the radio pretty much abandoned or is there someone who can look at this? What info can I supply to help fix this. The radio is still in very good shape even though it has traveled all over the planet and see some pretty grungy environments.
