OK, I was even more stumped!!
Building and etc... I tried a couple of Chirp versions...
The UV8D & UV8D plus are DIFFERENT radios.
Took a bit of searching, but there is programming software on the Wouxom
site!
http://wouxun.com/download.aspx?flid=1093
Hope this helps someone else!! Would have saved a lot of work!!
Let me know when Chirp Supports the radio... Yea, I will watch....

Greetings,
A new daily build of CHIRP is available. This includes changes made
directly to the tree yesterday, and may include additional features,
bug fixes, and/or bugs. If you are interested in trying it, grab it
from the following location:
http://trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp_daily/daily-20170526
A list of the changes included in this build (since the last daily)
follows:
Changes for Build #484
[Wade Simmons <wade(a)wades.im>] [FTM-3200D] Add support for Yaesu FTM-3200D
This patch adds basic CHIRP support for programming the FTM-3200D. This radio
shares most of its memory layout with the FT1D, so it has been created as a
subclass of that radio.

I picked up a KG-UV8D(plus) at Dayton. Since I had a Baofeng UV-5R at
home with the cable, all I got was the radio. I'm able to read the
Baofeng, but not the Wouxum. I get the message saying "This radio driver
is currently under development. There are no known issues with it, but
you should proceed with caution.". Then I get a message saying "An error
occurred, Radio did not respond".
I think I have the latest build.

I just installed chirp-daily-20170501.app to try. I am attempting to
copy setups from one Leixen VV-898E radio into several others.
However, a fraction of a second after the screen fills with the data
from the radio, Chirp unexpectedly quits, and I'm given the opportunity
to send a report to Apple.
My system is:
Macbook Air 11" (MacBookAir6,1)
MacOS X 10.11.6 (15G1421)
4GB RAM
The last line in .chirp/debug.log reads:
/Users/username/Applications/chirp-daily-20170501.app/Contents/MacOS/../Resources/chirp/chirpw:143:
PangoWarning: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text()
gtk.main()
I'm using the osx-pl2303-installer.pkg for my serial driver. This is
currently the only radio for which I have a programming cable.
Ideas?

It is easy on Windows 10, the trick is to always use the same usb port
that has the com# set and the right version of the driver. I have seen
several people pick a random port to plug into and think that windows is
changing the driver. The facat is they are changing what port they plug
into.
If someone is having too much trouble I can help over Teamviewer to
remote help. Just email me if you are in that much need.
Chas.

One way I found that has been great is to use a raspberry pi.. They now have a 7 inch display that bolts into a case with the pi and a lithium battery which means you can make it completely portable .. I’ve had not problems programming all of my radios with the pi..

There is no need to disable updates. If
Windows does update your
Prolific driver, the previous driver is
still installed. All you have
to do is go into Device Manager and
re-select the driver version that
you want to use. I keep several
Prolific driver versions installed and
switch between then at will for testing
purposes.

Perhaps it you reached out with a
polite request along the lines of ?I?m having problems
unsubscribing from this list. I?ve sent an unsubscribe
request email without success and I?ve tried the website
without success. Does any body have any ideas what I?m doing
wrong?? Bonus points for sending it as a separate thread
with s subject of something like ?Need help. Problems
unsubscribing." Such an inquiry will probably get you a lot
more assistance than just throwing a grenade into the
mailing list.

I see ?bug? numbers 3325 and 3257 from
last year, hoping support for Yaesu FT2D radio will work.
It?s in the wish list, and doesn?t seem to need hardware for
testing.
I?m interested in getting chirp to
work, and for some insights into how to get the serial
connection to work on Macintosh OS X 10.12.5.
HOW CAN I HELP (assuming this
just needs effort)??

Hello Chirpers;
I have a question. I am trying to
program repeaters into a Kenwood TMV7. I have been using
RepeaterBooks Proximity search. When setting a Manhattan?
zip code for example, it doesn?t seem to matter if I
indicate a 100 mile radius or a 300 mile radius. It only
seems pull about a 15 miles radius. Is there a default that
won?t allow a larger range?

Using "Import from data source",
"Location" = 10001 and "Band" = "2
meters (144MHz)", I the following
numbers of repeaters are retrieved.
Distance: # of repeaters
15: 50
100: 367
300: 1387

I have been fighting similar problems
on Win10 on my Baofeng UV-5R+.? I too
rolled back the driver to 3.2.0.0 to
get my "genuine" cable that I purchase
from HRO to work once I upgraded to
Win10.? It worked fine on Win7 and never
had a problem with the latest driver
but would not work on Win10 till I
rolled the driver back.? I then turned
off the auto driver updates for this
device.? Everything worked fine after
rolling the driver back.
A few months later when I tried to read
the radio again, it would not
connect.? I checked the driver and it
was still the 3.2.0.0 driver in my
listing.? It took me several days till
I updated the driver to the latest
driver which of course did not work,
but when I rolled it back again the
3.2.0.0 driver from the pick list for
this device, it began to work again.
Don't ask me what is going on but then
set it back for auto updates.? I will
now just roll the driver back every
time I want to use this cable.
I suggest you try to update your driver
and then roll it back again to
3.2.0.0 to see if that works for you.?
I know it sounds stupid but it is
worth a try since it worked for me.

I have strange issue with Windows 10,
prolific serial adapter and BF-888S.
It reports unable to download from
radio.
Driver is proper (version 3.2.0.0,
update is disabled), and Chirp works fine
with the same adapter and other radio
(Baofeng UV-B5) reading and writing.
I tried four different BF-888S and
neither can be read.
However, when I use the same USB
adapter on my old Windows XP computer,
Chirp easily reads and writes those
BF-888S.
Has anyone met with this problem?

I guess some update of win10 change
some part of the driver without
changing the driver version number.
Redowngrading probably fix this. But
this just a wild guess. The solution is
important. The reason is less
important

I wonder if you did not reboot windows
soon enough to solidify the change.
You would think that this would not
matter, but maybe Windows needs to reboot for changes such
as the driver setting.

There is no need to disable updates. If
Windows does update your
Prolific driver, the previous driver is
still installed. All you have
to do is go into Device Manager and
re-select the driver version that
you want to use. I keep several
Prolific driver versions installed and
switch between then at will for testing
purposes.

Perhaps it you reached out with a
polite request along the lines of ?I?m having problems
unsubscribing from this list. I?ve sent an unsubscribe
request email without success and I?ve tried the website
without success. Does any body have any ideas what I?m doing
wrong?? Bonus points for sending it as a separate thread
with s subject of something like ?Need help. Problems
unsubscribing." Such an inquiry will probably get you a lot
more assistance than just throwing a grenade into the
mailing list.

I see ?bug? numbers 3325 and 3257 from
last year, hoping support for Yaesu FT2D radio will work.
It?s in the wish list, and doesn?t seem to need hardware for
testing.
I?m interested in getting chirp to
work, and for some insights into how to get the serial
connection to work on Macintosh OS X 10.12.5.
HOW CAN I HELP (assuming this
just needs effort)??

Hello Chirpers;

Using "Import from data source",
"Location" = 10001 and "Band" = "2
meters (144MHz)", I the following
numbers of repeaters are retrieved.
Distance: # of repeaters
15: 50
100: 367
300: 1387

I have been fighting similar problems
on Win10 on my Baofeng UV-5R+.? I too
rolled back the driver to 3.2.0.0 to
get my "genuine" cable that I purchase
from HRO to work once I upgraded to
Win10.? It worked fine on Win7 and never
had a problem with the latest driver
but would not work on Win10 till I
rolled the driver back.? I then turned
off the auto driver updates for this
device.? Everything worked fine after
rolling the driver back.
A few months later when I tried to read
the radio again, it would not
connect.? I checked the driver and it
was still the 3.2.0.0 driver in my
listing.? It took me several days till
I updated the driver to the latest
driver which of course did not work,
but when I rolled it back again the
3.2.0.0 driver from the pick list for
this device, it began to work again.
Don't ask me what is going on but then
set it back for auto updates.? I will
now just roll the driver back every
time I want to use this cable.
I suggest you try to update your driver
and then roll it back again to
3.2.0.0 to see if that works for you.?
I know it sounds stupid but it is
worth a try since it worked for me.

I have strange issue with Windows 10,
prolific serial adapter and BF-888S.
It reports unable to download from
radio.
Driver is proper (version 3.2.0.0,
update is disabled), and Chirp works fine
with the same adapter and other radio
(Baofeng UV-B5) reading and writing.
I tried four different BF-888S and
neither can be read.
However, when I use the same USB
adapter on my old Windows XP computer,
Chirp easily reads and writes those
BF-888S.
Has anyone met with this problem?

I guess some update of win10 change
some part of the driver without
changing the driver version number.
Redowngrading probably fix this. But
this just a wild guess. The solution is
important. The reason is less
important

I wonder if you did not reboot windows
soon enough to solidify the change.
You would think that this would not
matter, but maybe Windows needs to reboot for changes such
as the driver setting.
Glenn
I have been fighting similar problems
on Win10 on my Baofeng UV-5R+.? I too
rolled back the driver to 3.2.0.0 to
get my "genuine" cable that I purchase
from HRO to work once I upgraded to
Win10.? It worked fine on Win7 and never
had a problem with the latest driver
but would not work on Win10 till I
rolled the driver back.? I then turned
off the auto driver updates for this
device.? Everything worked fine after
rolling the driver back.
A few months later when I tried to read
the radio again, it would not
connect.? I checked the driver and it
was still the 3.2.0.0 driver in my
listing.? It took me several days till
I updated the driver to the latest
driver which of course did not work,
but when I rolled it back again the
3.2.0.0 driver from the pick list for
this device, it began to work again.
Don't ask me what is going on but then
set it back for auto updates.? I will
now just roll the driver back every
time I want to use this cable.
I suggest you try to update your driver
and then roll it back again to
3.2.0.0 to see if that works for you.?
I know it sounds stupid but it is
worth a try since it worked for me.

Baofeng BF-888S
I have strange issue with Windows 10,
prolific serial adapter and BF-888S.
It reports unable to download from
radio.
Driver is proper (version 3.2.0.0,
update is disabled), and Chirp works fine
with the same adapter and other radio
(Baofeng UV-B5) reading and writing.
I tried four different BF-888S and
neither can be read.
However, when I use the same USB
adapter on my old Windows XP computer,
Chirp easily reads and writes those
BF-888S.
Has anyone met with this problem?

I use Windows 10 , no problems

I had a brainstorm today...
Windows 10, 64 bit version, allows for installing bash, in fact, it is a
Microsoft version of Linux.
You can install Linux programs too.
I'd be willing to bet that Chirp in the CLI would work in that environment.
And then Windows 10 folks could have a better experience.

There is no need to disable updates. If
Windows does update your
Prolific driver, the previous driver is
still installed. All you have
to do is go into Device Manager and
re-select the driver version that
you want to use. I keep several
Prolific driver versions installed and
switch between then at will for testing
purposes.

trying to program repeaters into a Kenwood TMV7. I have been using
RepeaterBooks Proximity search. When setting a Manhattan? zip code for example, it
doesn?t seem to matter if I indicate a 100 mile radius or a 300 mile radius.
It only seems pull about a 15 miles radius. Is there a default that won?t

Win10 on my Baofeng UV-5R+.? I too rolled back the driver to 3.2.0.0 to get my
"genuine" cable that I purchase from HRO to work once I upgraded to Win10.?
It worked fine on Win7 and never had a problem with the latest driver but
would not work on Win10 till I rolled the driver back.? I then turned off
the auto driver updates for this device.? Everything worked fine after
rolling the driver back. A few months later when I tried to read the radio
again, it would not connect.? I checked the driver and it was still the 3.2.0.0
driver in my listing.? It took me several days till I updated the driver to
the latest driver which of course did not work, but when I rolled it back
again the 3.2.0.0 driver from the pick list for this device, it began to
work again. Don't
ask me what is going on but then set it back for auto updates.? I will now
just roll the driver back every time I want to use this cable. I suggest
you try to update your driver and then roll it back again to 3.2.0.0 to see
if that works for you.? I know it sounds stupid but it is worth a try since
it worked for me. Herb, KB7UVC NW APRS Group, West Sound Coordinator Our

I have strange issue with Windows 10, prolific serial adapter and
BF-888S. It reports unable to download from radio.
Driver is proper (version 3.2.0.0, update is disabled), and Chirp works
fine with the same adapter and other radio (Baofeng UV-B5) reading and
writing.
I tried four different BF-888S and neither can be read.
However, when I use the same USB adapter on my old Windows XP computer,
Chirp easily reads and writes those BF-888S.
Has anyone met with this problem?

Hello Chirpers;
I have a question. I am trying to program repeaters into a Kenwood TMV7. I have been using RepeaterBooks Proximity search. When setting a Manhattan zip code for example, it doesn?t seem to matter if I indicate a 100 mile radius or a 300 mile radius. It only seems pull about a 15 miles radius. Is there a default that won?t allow a larger range?

Using "Import from data source", "Location" = 10001 and "Band" = "2
meters (144MHz)", I the following numbers of repeaters are retrieved.
Distance: # of repeaters
15: 50
100: 367
300: 1387

I have been fighting similar problems on Win10 on my Baofeng UV-5R+. I too
rolled back the driver to 3.2.0.0 to get my "genuine" cable that I purchase
from HRO to work once I upgraded to Win10. It worked fine on Win7 and never
had a problem with the latest driver but would not work on Win10 till I
rolled the driver back. I then turned off the auto driver updates for this
device. Everything worked fine after rolling the driver back.
A few months later when I tried to read the radio again, it would not
connect. I checked the driver and it was still the 3.2.0.0 driver in my
listing. It took me several days till I updated the driver to the latest
driver which of course did not work, but when I rolled it back again the
3.2.0.0 driver from the pick list for this device, it began to work again.
Don't ask me what is going on but then set it back for auto updates. I will
now just roll the driver back every time I want to use this cable.
I suggest you try to update your driver and then roll it back again to
3.2.0.0 to see if that works for you. I know it sounds stupid but it is
worth a try since it worked for me.

I guess some update of win10 change some part of the driver without
changing the driver version number. Redowngrading probably fix this. But
this just a wild guess. The solution is important. The reason is less
important
