This new rig is excellent but a few quirks remain. I am using the latest build of CHIRP. 1.. CHIRP Settings Tab, Basic Settings, allows selection of Display Mode for A, B, C, & D. Options are frequency, channel, or name. This works once uploaded to radio. However, when radio powered down and restarted the display defaults to what ever is in the first channel programmed in CHIRP (memory channel zero or one as shown in CHIRP). Display A is always what CHIRP shows in Basic Settings tab but display B, C, & D are what is in the first channel programmed in CHIRP. Is this a radio issue or CHIRP issue? If CHIRP, does anyone know the fix? 2.. Under Settings Tab, Work Mode Settings, menu item Display, you can select A, B, C, or D. I have selected A. If I choose another display does not seem to make a difference. Any one know what this does? 3.. Under Settings Tab, Work Mode Settings, there are menu items VFO/MR mode, MR channel, & VFO frequency. You can choose options for each. Any one know what these options do? How are they different from the Display options in Basic Settings tab? When I change these don't see a change on radio. I bet I'm missing something on each of these. The learning curve on this rig is short but there are some odd things to decode. My thanks to all. 73 KW4DOC

[chirp_users] Password issues and CW/SSB cross-mode issue

*Password issues.* I used the "lost password" feature to change my password... but I still can't log in with the new password. Any ideas? *Issue re Yaesu FT-857 and FT-857D.* I'm using a Yaesu FT-857D w/MARS mod, so I (successfully) use the FT-857 radio option. On a few channels I programmed the radio for split mode -- i.e., transmit on CW on a carrier about 2 KHz lower than the suppressed LSB carrier for the channel I'm receiving. CHIRP handles the frequency split, but I can't specify the mode split. Any ideas? David / K7DB

2nd question. I originally got it working on my very old personal laptop running Vista. I was able to save a cloning image to do the rest of the work radios. Today i got it operational on my work laptop (Windows 7). I read a radio and went to save the image for future use. Nothing happened when i clicked save or save as. I went to close the program intending to restart chirp and it asked if i wanted to save i said yes and the dialog box closed and chirp remained open. [chirp_users] New user advice please

Hi all, Last year, I purchased a Baofeng UV-5R Plus and a programming lead with the intention of setting up the radio with Chirp. A long story cut short - the lead was one that contained a "dodgy" Prolific IC, so I recently purchased a CP2102 module, and replaced the USB part of the lead. The drivers loaded correctly, and I have set the Com port. But, try as I might, all I get is "Radio failed to respond" from Chirp. My guess is that I am doing something wrong. So, what is the secret? Chirp help says to choose a quiet frequency, but makes no mention of whether the squelch should be open, fully closed, partly closed or what. Do you connect the radio to the lead, turn it on, and then click the OK button when prompted to do so? Or do you leave the radio off, and only turn it on when prompted? Also, I don't see the UV-5R Plus listed. I have tried using UV-5R as the model, and also tried using BF-F8HP, but I get the same result from both. So, what am I doing wrong? Hello, I know it isn't on the list, but is it possible to program the FTdx5000 using chirp? I wondered whether the useless 60m channels applied could be re-programmed to be multi mode, and maybe even a few more channels could be programmed. Any ideas? Thanks John G4DRS

1. When programming simplex frequencies or 2 meter frequencies on chirp when you type in the frequencies and then go to the set-up pages, are you changing parameters for only the frequencies you typed in or are you overriding all previous set-ups?

Hi Phil, Stick with it; chirp is really great once it's up and running. Now, you said that you reversed txd and rxd, then your pc powered off ?? That's unusual. You sure that's what you did? I've done some crazy stuff in my time, but never has a pc powered off if TX and RX were reversed. I am very new to radios and programming. I am trying to program a BF-888S for my business using your software. The radio was purchased a week ago along with Baofeng cable. I get an error message of "radio refused to enter programming mode". I have tried all the Baofeng models listed with similiar results on 2 different laptops. Any help wouldbe appreciated. Thanks
