A friend of mine has purchased the first two radios in the list below and I have compared them as well. With regards to the following radios: BTECH: UV-2501 & UV-5001 Juentai: JT-6188 Luiton: LT-898UV Will CHIRP be supporting these radios in the near future? I intend to buy the BTECH unit, whether it is supported by CHIRP or not. Anyone else out there have their own opinions of these radios and similar cousins? 73's Ray

[chirp_users] Wrong version being reported under Ubuntu

Despite having accepted the latest update to Chirp via the Software Updater and verified under Synaptic Package Manager that the version of Chirp-daily installed is 20160116~wily~1, the About menu item reports CHIRP daily-20151023 and has done so for the most recent updates. I have completely removed and re-installed chirp-daily but still get the same old version on the About CHIRP pane. Is there an image file on Ubuntu that I need to remove manually or is the updated version deficient in some way? David

I have a new iMac I can get chirp to read my radio but it will not write to it I keep getting an error saying that chirp can’t see the radio but it just cloned it. I have tried two different cables down loaded the drivers and reinstalled chirp.Thanks for any help. Michael

[chirp_users] Baofeng UV-5R won't program

Sir, I recently purchased two of these radios, but am having trouble programming them using the purchased cable that interfaces with the radio and ends in a USB cable. I have tried with both a Windows 10 and a Windows 7 Home pc. I checked the firmware version and saw that it read: BFB297 I check the devices in Windows 10 and it shows com3 or com4, depending on the USB port and it looks good. I click on new and then click on the radio tab and put in com1 or com2 or com3 or com4 and always get an error (vendor is Baofeng and UV-5R). Thanks for any help you can give. Don in sunny Florida

Hello all - I just got an ID-880H and am getting started with D-STAR. I would like to try writing my own applications for programming and controlling the radio, but I cannot find anything that documents what the programming protocol is for the radio. Can someone tell me where it might be documented? I'd like to do things with the radio that CHIRP and the other programs do not do. Any guidance? Thanks in advance John Babrick, N9CNM, Frederick MD

[chirp_users] Wouxun KG-UV3D CHIRP support and a question on the memory chip replacement

Hi, I am a bit confused about CHIRP support for this radio. It is listed on the home page, but the software does not present this model in the dropdown list when I attempt to download from it and I do not see it in the model_supported.html file on the download page. Can someone clarify this for me? I need to write a new img to my radio I think. I was successful in replacing the nvram chip (I had the infamous Wouxun radio losing it settings and memory issue) by following the process listed at http://tim-yvonne.com/ham/wouxun-memory/index.htm but the radio reverted to some other band than what I purchased it for (this problem also documented at the site listed above) after I completed the memory replacement procedure. I'm stuck, I fixed the memory issue and tested it by manually programming two channels and those settings were retained after removing the battery and reinstalling it. But now I am getting the Channel Freq Out of Range issue for channels that previously worked just fine before the chip transplant. Any thoughts on this issue?
