[chirp_users] Blank screen with win xp

I don't know if that was Paul answering me or not as I can't get a screen to download anything. When the live cd boots all I get is a blinking ( -) in the upper left corner and I have left it there for over an hour and nothing. Everything just stops. This is on an old laptop I would like to take with me if a radio needs to be programed. The live cd boots up just fine on my win 7 and programs and saves just fine but sure would like to use the laptop. Hub

I just started using CHIRP to program my Yaesu VX-7R. I used CHIRP recently with a Baofeng UV5R and noticed that there was tab to change the radio settings. I don't see this tab for the VX-7R. Am i missing something, or is this capability just not in CHIRP for the VX-7R? Richard AE6XO

Honest, I had this working and I uninstalled it because somehow CHIRP got registered as a file browser program and NOW it protests: chirpw Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/chirpw", line 25, in <module> import gtk ImportError: No module named gtk All the dependencies that I know about are installed. [chirp_users] Using CHIRP Without the Mouse

Hi everyone, I'm new to the list. I downloaded CHIRP to use with my BaoFeng UV5 because programming it is a beast using the radio itself. I am totally blind and use a screen reader called JAWS that verbalizes what's on the screen. I use the keyboard, not the mouse, for all computer operations because the mouse is totally a visual interface. When I tried to use CHIRP, I discovered that there seems to be no way to access any of the menus or menu commands via keyboard. Does anyone have any suggestions, tips, etc for how to do this? It may not be possible, but before I abandon it totally, I thought I'd send a query to see what's out there. Thanks. Catherine KE4LAM

I am new to Chirp and am trying to get the bootable disk I made to load but all I get is a blank screen. I saw in in the question list this same thing and said it was in the letters but I just started and don't know where to go to find this information. I made a clean install of XP on my laptop and going to use it just for programming radios. It is an old machine. Hub

[chirp_users] Icom ID-880H not able to set "my call"

Guys, I can program frequencies fine, but it's not accepting my call under Dstar settings. I enter it, save the file, close and reopen and it's gone. I also imported a config from a friends' 880, changed his call to mine, saved, and uploaded. Still has his call in it. So I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong, or if this is a known issue? I've searched the archives but haven't found anything yet. If anyone has an idea I'm all ears. Thanks, Mobi

[chirp_users] Need help programming my new Baofeng UV-5R using my Mac.

I am a new Technician class HAM licensee (KM4BED) and just bought a Baofeng UV-5R from Amazon as my first radio. A friend told me about CHIRP to program the local repeaters into the radio. I bought a programming cable from Amazon at the same time. I downloaded the Mac version of CHIRP from the CHIRP website and installed it with the driver it recommended for the Mac. I cannot seem to get the computer and the radio to talk. Can anyone help? I had the same friend help me checkout the cable and the radio using his computer (he has 5 of these radios) to see if the problem was the cable or the radio. He could program my radio using my cable with his Windows based computer and CHIRP. Based on this I am assuming my radio and cable are fine and there is something wrong with my computer configuration. My computer is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.7.5 (this is the latest version this hardware will support). The version of CHIRP I am running is CHIRP 0.4.0 (GTK 2.24.10, PyGTK 2.22.0, Python 2.7.2). This is what I am doing: I start CHIRP; I plug the cable into a USB port on the computer; Then I plug the cable into the radio; Then I turn on the radio. This is what happens: The LED Indicator comes on RED and stays on for several minutes; Then it starts blinking Off and Red for a few minutes; Then it goes off. At that point I figure it is ready to start talking to the computer. On the computer I select Radio > Download From Radio; I select Port = /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem; Vendor = Baofeng; Model = UV-5R; I press the OK button; Instantly I get "An error has occurred could not open port /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem: [Errno 16] Resource busy: '/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem'"; I press the OK button. Then I try the other port: On the computer I select Radio > Download From Radio; I select Port = /dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync; Vendor = Baofeng; Model = UV-5R; I press the OK button; I get a box that says Cloning for a few seconds; Then I get "An error has occurred Radio did not respond"; I press the OK button. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Mike KM4BED
