i have found that ocassionally, while trying to send to radio, i get a failed condition on first try. second try works normally not a problem now, but was distracting when first occured. thought i was no doing something properly. this is with plug fully seated, and downloads from radio properly. try try again? 73 jim kf8sj

I am learning fast. Got the PPA attached and the daily build installed via kind help and the website. Then hooked up the USB dongle and it would not work - no drivers, of course, after first plugging it in. I found somewhere to issue "DMESG" in terminal. I have no idea what that is but it was suggested by a web site to get the drivers installed and it got the correct drivers from somewhere, first try. Magic abounds!! Then try to download from the radio and got a message error 13 that I don't have permissions to ttyUSB0. Another website said to issue: |sudo chmod 0777 /dev/ttyUSB0 That was the last bit to make it work. Got a download. Did not try to re-upload but I suspect it will work. Thanks to all helpers. Happier now. Chipping away at the Ubuntu mystery. So much to learn. Oh, special thanks to the packager of Chirp in the PPA. It automatically loaded & installed the three Python pieces and something else. Sweet!! Mike Morrow/W6XXX (now, back to reading the Ubuntu books that came in) |

Set the step to the lowest setting and the radio might leave them alone. If the step is too high, I think the radio either truncates or goes to the closest step. Mike

After some web searching - No, I don't know what DMESG did to help with the USB driver. It seems to be just a listing program with no connection to installing drivers. Maybe it was a coincidence of timing that the driver was not there and after DMESG was there but it would not work before issuing the command and did work after only issuing that command. If anyone has any insight, that is for another forum, I guess. Not directly related to CHIRP. Anyway, CHIRP seems good on Ubuntu. Thanks to all group members for this program. Mike Morrow

Hi All. Can Chirp be use with a Vertex Standard VX426. The Chirp software recognizes the radio but they wont talk to each other. Cheers Glenn

[chirp_users] compiling for Vinux?

A couple of questions. what developer packages do I need to have installed to compile the daily source? Also, Is it screen reader compatible using ORCA (on Vinux 4.x)? I ran into some problems trying to compile a daily source build about 2 weeks ago and never did get back around to it. SO, these questions are rather important to me as I am a blind ham and screen reader user. Additionally, THe program needs to be made accessible on OS X. It is only partially so )the programming window shows a blank scroll area to voiceover and there doesn't appear to be any untreatable controls there). Just a suggestion. -eric

I don't have one YET, but could the Icom IC-7100 be out on the list of radios to do? It is Dstar and HF, 6, 10, VHF and UHF. thanks , Rob
