I've been playing around with the RadioReference (RR) import, and wondering if there's any plans afoot to expand the function beyond just getting frequencies from a certain zip code. That seems very limited, and RR has much more than that available. For example, the site, over the last year or so, has started accepting ham radio repeater frequencies, and it has a rather large nationwide listing. In addition, there are many organizations and categories available at the state level. Many scanner software packages have this functionality, and I suspect that hams that are members of RR would appreciate having it. As I understand it, having worked a little with some software authors (including the author of FreeScan for the Uniden DMA scanners, who is himself a ham) there's a fair amount of flexibility in being able to select or de-select certain categories of frequencies (for example, here in Maryland, the State Police have an extensive 39 Mhz listing, but few if any ham radios receive there. These could be blocked.) Since I can't send HTML here, I will say that there's a brief wiki page on the SOAP protocol on RR, and we have how FreeScan defined the conventional import using the web service - lots of pix there. If it's a Prolific device, you can try the open source driver mentioned on that page...* What's the syntax I need to use in Chirp to point it to the cable? What you're looking at below is what System Information is reporting for the USB-to-Serial cable I'm using (Edgeport/1), plugged into a USB hub. But none of these elements seems to work as a port address in Chirp. [chirp_users] Noob question re: Mac setup

Greetings: Brand new to CHIRP and have just cloned my FT-857 (in Windows, running Parallels on a Mac). I'd really like to figure out how to run it natively in OS X and have installed the Python package and the latest CHIRP build, but can't get CHIRP to see any ports other than a couple of Bluetooth entries in the ports list. I'm also fairly new to Macs, so am not sure how to manually address the port from within CHIRP. Can anyone point me to useful startup documentation for Mac users (assuming my radio interface cable is good, since it works well for me on the Windows side)? Thanks Matt

I need to import profile from ver.291 to 251, is there a way? I noticed that Chirp will not read VIP profiles. I am using Chirp for ver 251 and VIP for version 291, but I cannot share profiles to make all radios identical. Also, is anyone working an option to upgrade 251 version firmware to 291? The zip code in the signin form is very poorly worded - it should be much more explicit that this is the zip code for which you want to download data. It's probably quite obvious, but maybe not - I've reactivated my RadioReference subscription, and the transaction went smoothly. I can sign onto the web service using FreeScan (popular freeware software for the Uniden DMA Scanners), but Chirp just dies when I try. I open a new template using 'NEW', then Click 'Radio', 'Query Data Source', then 'RadioReference.com'. I then fill in the signin screen, put in my user name, password and zip code, then hit 'OK' - and that's where it dies. No screens, no message, nothing. I'd like to put a blurb on the wiki on how to sign in, but so far, it's a no-go... What am I missing? I'm using the Sept 19 build. TIA...Mike

Is the group aware of a bug with ver. 251 where the VFO when locked to VFO A, will sometime switch to VFO B on its own. Has Anyone experienced this? [chirp_users] Need help with Chirp (Linux) and a VX-8GR

Good afternoon, all, I recently bought a VX-8GR and have been trying to program it with Chirp (which I've found works flawlessly with my Wouxun handheld). I'm using the latest daily build on Lubuntu, with an RT Systems USB cable connected to the data jack. I pressed F/W while turning the radio on, was in clone mode, and pressed band to begin the transfer -- all after beginning the download on Chrip. After an initial few tries didn't work (the error message was: Failed to communicate with radio: no response from radio) using the keystroke sequence I found in past messages on this group, I consulted Dr. Google and came up with the following: For the RT Systems cable, add the following line to etc/udev/rules.d/99-custom.rules: SYSFS{idVendor}=="2100", SYSFS{idProduct}=="9e50", RUN+="/sbin/modprobe -q ftdi_sio vendor=0x2100 product=0x9e50" I did so, rebooted, tried again to communicate with the radio, but got the same error message. The battery has a full charge. Any hints? I can't rule out the loose-nut-behind-the-wheel syndrome. ;-) With best regards, Pete -- Peter N.
