I'm processing an old Vertex (Yaesu) radio(FLT-#011), and it has a variable number of channels (4/8/12/16/24) depending on the upgraded epprom size (stored also on a epprom position)

So I need to update that on run time, did you worked out a case like this on Chirp? what model ? (to learn from)
