I quickly tried to apply the patches but they weren't applying cleanly and since the patches were given over email vs. committed directly to the repository, I thought I'd wait a bit before complaining. :-)

No, nearly every open source project on the planet communicates these changes over email in patch format. His patch emails are clean, and they work fine. Since you're using thunderbird, you can hit Control-U on each mail and save the uuber-raw version, which should apply. Note, don't apply his "merge" patch, but all the rest.

I assume everything is in the repository now so I'll try again later today.
