Well, yes, but for that to work reliably, you need to be able to detect
the image separately as well.

I'm not sure I completely follow this. After I load an image, CHIRP does properly select UV-5R, F-11, UV-82 or UV-6 when an "Upload To Radio" is attempted. Is that what you mean, or something else.
