[chirp_devel] Yaesu FT-1802 and FT-817 support?

I've got a Yaesu FT-1802 and FT-817 here I'd really like to use with Chirp. They are both cloning-cable radios, so I assume I could use the existing Yaesu cloning system once I figure our how the memory is mapped. My guess is that the FT-1802 is very similar to the FT-2800. Where should I start? Has anyone poked at either of these radios before? I know there is existing programming software for the FT-817, but I couldn't find documentation of the memory map. Tom KD7LXL

I did some testing with the 9/1 daily build and the Yaesu FT-2800m and Kenwood TM-271A. I had good success with uploads and downloads from both radios. The FT-2800 seems a bit sensitive to sequence, but worked fine as long as I followed the recommended procedure. I notice that the TM-271A isn't on the list of supported radios, so we might as well add it because it seems to work fine with this build. The list of supported radios is getting long! I intend to give a little attention to the FT-50 interface, but before I do, I'd like to know: What are the chances I will brick the radio? Are there irreparable mistakes I can make? For instance, for reasons that I am not clear on, it seems that every (Yaesu) radio programming tool requires that a cloned image be made of the radio, then updated, then sent back to the radio. If I mess up this image and send it back to the radio, can I render the radio useless? Thanks, Phil AG4AT

Hi Gerrit, Jay just reported that he hasn't been able to launch the MacOS .app since the 8/25 build, which I assume is a result of your script change. I'm embarrassed to say I didn't test it, as it takes a bit of doing for me to get access to a MacOS machine. [chirp_devel] VX-7R w/USB-Serial Adapter - Locking Up MacOSX

First off, thanks for Chirp! Love it! Working great with my Wouxun KG-UV3D once I found the driver for the WXUSB cable. However, for my Yaesu VX-7R, I'm not able to Upload. I was able to Download what I had in their before though. Whenever I try and upload anything to the VX-7R, the progress bar makes it to about between the "i" and "n" in the word "Cloning" above the progress bar every time... and then. KABOOM! Keyboard and Mouse input stops working on the Mac. Cannot even do a Force Kill keystroke (CMD-OPT-ESC). The power button does still work and brings up the Reboot/Shutdown/Cancel dialog box... but with no keyboard/mouse, can't really click on it. I have to hold down the power down till the machine forces turn off. A couple of seconds after the progress bar stops, the VX-7R goes into non-Clone mode, but has completely lost all programming. UV-3D still works like a champ, BTW. I have Best Buy brand (Dynex I think?) USB-Serial convertor for my 9-pin serial Yaesu cable. I've ordered a USB Yaesu cable from WAMA (or whatever that eBay site is), but won't be here for a few days. Here are the pertinent data, I think. MacOSX 10.6.8 CHIRP daily-08202011 GTK 2.16.6 (from CHIRP about) PyGTK 2.14.1 (from CHIRP about) MacBook Pro 15" (2.8Ghz Core i7, 8GB RAM, 240GB SSD) Dynex USB-Serial Adapter Yaesu Serial programming cable Yaesu VX-7R

btw, Speaking of chinese radios and yahoo groups, a version of the wouxun is supposed to get going down to a 2.5 khz step size soon. Haven't seen any other details yet.

Glad to hear you've added some preliminary support for this. I'm just curious what did this radio look like from a protocol perspective? Are there any similarities emerging for these chinese radios?

[chirp_devel] [PATCH] Fix clone.py to not attempt to read empty ports list.

Re: http://trac.chirp.danplanet.com/trac/ticket/128 IndexError bug I said this bug was fixed in changeset:924, but it was actually just masked. If no ports are found, the IndexError still occurs. I intended to fix this by displaying an error dialog when no ports were auto-detected, but decided to fail quietly instead. The user still has the option to manually type a port location. With this patch, CHIRP handles an empty serial port list without error. The fix prevents CHIRP from blindly attempting to read from an empty list. Tom KD7LXL
