The attached patch adds support for a wider variety of latitude/longitude input formats in the RFinder search dialog. What should work: dd mm.m N/S/E/W dd mm ss.s N/S/E/W with any separator between the fields, and with or without a separator between the final group of digits and the direction. The parsing code is currently extremely permissive. It doesn't complain about seconds or minutes values greater than 60; it just adds them in (so 45 90 N produces the same result as 46 30 N). Should it care? When multiple people are working on a driver, it's often the case that patches will conflict because they both made edits to the directory listing. Further, it makes it harder to add/remove a module during development because you have to edit the directory. This patch introduces a "register" decorator in the directory module. Any driver claiming to implement a radio driver can decorate that class and have it automatically included in the directory. Thus, simply placing mydriver.py in the chirp module folder will cause it to be included. Two example radios (Yaesu FT-7800 and Icom IC-2200) are implemented here for demonstration. I've been wanting to do this for a looooong time. Thoughts? Hi all, For a long time, CHIRP has had a very naive internal model for dealing with banks of memories. This was developed at a time when CHIRP only handled Icom radios, and thus it assumed each memory could only be in one bank at a time. Yaesu radios have a one-to-many bank system, where memories can be in multiple banks at a time. This patch set: 1. Creates a new bank model system 2. Demonstrates support with two icom radios (with slightly different bank mechanisms) and one yaesu radio 3. Adds UI elements to allow setting bank memberships This only works for the three radios included right now, but I will finish the support for the rest of the radios that currently have bank support soon. Following that, I will add bank support to the radios that Jon's patches includes. I'm sending these to the list in case anyone is interested or has comments about how this may or may not enable bank support for hopefully any type of radio out there. Thanks! -Dan KK7DS

Hi all, I can not report success, but I will detail what I have done so far. After reading, perhaps you can tell me what I am doing wrong. I have modified an FTDI FT232R based USB serial interface dongle by removing the RS232 level shifter, connecting the VCCIO line to 3.3V (instead of 5V) and connecting to the FTDI chip's Tx and Rx lines directly. These are wired to a 3-pin (stereo) 3.5mm socket. Tip is data in to the PC, ring is data out from PC, sleeve is ground. I also made an adapter for the 4-pin 3.5mm plug on the VX2r. Tip is N/C, 1st ring (data/clone) is connected to Tx *and* Rx above, 2nd ring (mic+ptt) is N/C, sleeve is ground. The dongle still works, and when I plug it in it is assigned to /dev/ttyUSB0 When I plug the adaptor in (but not the radio) then I have basically made a loopback device, and I can use gtkterm to view echoes of every character I type. I have modified chirp and copied the VX7 module to make a VX2r module. I can run chirp (in Linux) and select VX2r and the /dev/ttyUSB0 port. When I plug the radio in I press FW whilst turning it on. The display says 'CLONE'. Next, I press BAND, because I want to Tx from the radio to the PC. The radio display says 'TX'. Nothing happens in chirp (I guess I am supposed to see an animated progress bar) and the radio eventually times out and shows 'ERROR' on its display. Please point out my obvious mistakes and I will try again. :) 73, Andrew ZL3AME

Could you attempt to use the 857 driver to download an image from your 897? If it works, it should grab all the data from the radio, but then chirp will complain once completed. However, if you ignore the errors and go to File->Save As, you should be able to save out the memory map as a .img file. If that works, could you send it to us for analysis? FYI, for the maintainer of the wouxun driver. David Behar has done the work to map out the memory format as well as the .tw file format for the newer version of the Wouxun KG-UV6D radio. This is a newer version with 199 memory channels and 2.5 khz spacing. Note: the memory format and software between the earlier 128 memory channel HT's (KG-UV1,2,3) and the 199 memory channel is similar but incompatible. There have been reports of people running into problems (including possibly bricking radios) by using incompatible versions including .tw files from a different version of the radio. The wouxun settings including the band limits seem to be in range of the writable memory area without much protection. It sounds like using the wrong version will unintentionally overwrite those settings with garbage (channel data). I've read that writing band limits outside the range the radio is capable of will cause the PLL to fail to lock and the microcontroller will then hang waiting. Note: it may be worth mentioning on the chirp pages that the KG-UV(D)[123][PD] driver is not compatible with the kg-uv6d. I don't know if the UV6D radio sends a different identification or has any reliable way of telling the difference. I don't have one. I'm just sharing what I've seen on other mailing lists as an fyi.
