Hi everyone, So far I have these fields decoding successfully: # mode # duplex # freq # power # tmode # name # offset I'm a little worried because when I change a single property of a single memory I get a large number of changes in the memory file. For example, if I change only one channel from high power to low power I get about 37 bytes affected. I expected to see only two or three (the byte that records the power level, and the checksum). 'tune_step' might be working, but I'm not sure, and I need to work on 'tone' and 'dcs'. I think I should have started with the VX3 code instead of VX7, but I just copy stuff from VX3 anyway. I am focusing on decoding the memory image. I haven't done anything to the code that writes a modified memory image. Finally, I seem to have a problem where occasionally I get or lose a null byte at the beginning of the file, which of course messes up the byte count. I think I should get "\x00AHN015" but sometimes I just get "AHN015". That's all for now. I guess there won't be a patch as the VX2r is a new program file. I'll send the whole thing when I'm done, or I can send the current horribly broken mess to anyone who wants to look at it. 73, Andrew ZL3AME

This (big) patch add support for VFO, Home, PMS, QMB special memories to both 817 and 857. A reorganisation of sources has also been done. More checking should be done for bands limits, out of bands values give strange results but seems to be mostly safe.

States are big, so I added a county filter for the Repeaterbook.com importer. I wrote this for personal use, and haven't tested it extensively. Feel free to try it if you want, and email me if you encounter any problems. This patch only changes the query that's sent to repeaterbook. If you encounter errors during the actual import, that's probably a bug in the repeaterbook output. I've already found a few of those, and had the repeaterbook admin fix them. At this point the repeaterbook data for Colorado is clean, but I can't say any other states are 100% working! If Chirp can't parse one of the lines, it'll ignore it and successfully import all of the other entries. Tom KD7LXL

There is an unknown flag preceding the tone that give strange results in tone frequency (menu 83) when set to 1, this happens on all clean memory (filled by 0xFF) which are populated by chirp. This patch simply force the bit to 0.

Hi everyone, I have found the location of the start of the memories (0x17c5) and the size of each record (0x12 bytes). I am picking apart the bits for tones, power level, etc. There is a bug in the VX7 code that constructs the memory name string. Around line 161 for i in _mem.name: if i == "\xFF": break mem.name += CHARSET[i] mem.name = mem.name.rstrip() In the loop, i is a byte. "\xFF" is a character. Looking for a byte value this way doesn't work. It is correct in other code (the VX3 code, for example): if i == 0xFF: The VX7 code will appear to work, since a series of 0xFF bytes are mapped to a series of 0x00 bytes by the character lookup. These bytes are then removed by the rstrip() function. In the VX2 code I still haven't looked for (or found) the checksum. I commented out the check, so all I have right now is the following: Read data from VX2r My home-made USB->VX2r interface is working with a transistor buffer on the FTDI Tx line. Save .img file without verifying checksum This is useful as I can view it with a hex editor Display some channels I can parse the frequency and name, and I think repeater offset is correct too. Some other fields are parsed, but I haven't verified their correctness. So, progress is slow, but it's taking shape. I also edited line 518 in mainapp.py as originally the dialog box title was "Discard changes?" but the dialog box contents said "Save changes?". I experienced cognitive dissonance every time it appeared, so I fixed it. Please fix it in the main code (it's not worth a patch...) 73, Andrew ZL3AME
